Yes, you can. Ranging from the cloths embedded with polish that they sell at Kmart/Walmart, etc., to the Radiance polish we sell as part of the Gemcare kids, you can safely take that patina off yourself.

I find though that the polish doesn't last very long. I had mine polished by my jeweler and within two months it was dull again. i don't mind though-I am not a high polish person. And I do Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in my palladium wedding rings and the metal has held up fine. I was however the first person to request a reset in palladium and he ended up taking it to his bench in NYC anyway!

It is definitely not a metal I would recommend unless you've got allergies to nickel."

Does it REALLY brittle ? That's a HUGE thing to me. I'm not one of those girls that wants another engagement ring I want just 1 ring that will last a lifetime and I get rather attached to sentimental pieces..it would crush me if it got brittle and broke.

If you read further in that thread, you will find where the problem comes in with palladium being brittle is directly related to how many times it's worked on. Continual heating and cooling (high heat) will result in the metal becoming brittle. Time alone will not affect the metal.

Personally, I hate Palladium. I work in it when requested, but most jewelers don't do repairs properly, for example they use gold solder rather than palladium solder with sizing, they don't understand the heat issues, etc etc etc.. I wrote a giant blog post about it a very long time ago, I'm just not a fan.

I know that there are a lot of fans of the metal, but I'm not one.

That is the secret to palladium. According to the jewelers and metallurgist I asked, you have to have a bench that is knowledgeable when it comes to how to work with the metal. It requires a completely different method for heating and not many jewelers have the capabilities, nor want the hassle.

Sadly I don't think I will get the choice between white gold or palladium anymore...I think it's dawned on me between the two nearly identical rings I want that the exact elegant area that holds up the diamond is only available in the ring that has white gold or Platinum ( Palladium not offered for that ring it's only offered for it's twin). I don't want plat so I think I'm stuck with white gold ... we'll see once my ticket is answered by customer service. I think my heart sank a little. Over night I had come to the conclusion I wanted Palladium >.<

ok well...I got a super fast reply from Less (OK I am really impressed with the lightning fast response) apparently the two rings do have the same setting so my ship is UNsunk. Palladium it is! I'm clumsy as all hell and I will bang up white gold in a jiffy and I'll have one completely unimpressed man on my hands tapping his feet with me if in less than 6 months it needs repairs lol.

I really feel sorry for him.

I have had white gold, platinum and palladium. I like them all, but prefer platinum. I had white gold and platinum at first. I really liked the way platinum wore better, but I wasn't crazy about the price tag. So palladium was a nice substitution for me.

Yup, I agree!

Platinum is always my first choice, but for all other pieces I would much rather have palladium than white gold. Roughly the same price, better value. IMHO.
