I want bright. I want that bad boy on my finger to blind the man on the moon! I wonder if BDT does Rhodium plating on their micro pave white gold version.

Melrose, I think for that ring you should do palladium. smile the brightness would be a plus for that setting!

I'm pretty sure btd plates their gold, wink

You know Flashfrenzy I thought so too but I do't even know how bright white gold is either lol. I really don't own any jewelry I wasn't kidding so I have nothing to stare at and check it out. I will have to hit up my future future misters aunt and scope out her sparklies for ideas. I was all for white gold until I Googled it and it seemed everyone started ganging up on it.

Note: ya know , I am so wet behind the ears with jewelry I have no idea who does what to stuff and I prolly should. The rhodium plating comment was something I should have known huh ? lol I could kick myself sometimes for being silly.

Platinum doesn't stay high polish for long as it develops a patina quickly, and scratches easily. wink

I had to go use Google images to see what this "patina" is - sounded like a food item to me honestly lol. Gotta say that is one funky thing to have growing on your ring. I pulled up a lot of pics where metal was growing some blue-ish green..what looked like...mold ???

Pd will develop the same patina. To remove the patina form plat or pd, you need to have it polished, to keep white gold truly white you need to have it re plated...unless pd white gold or 19k white or Stullers X1. All of those white golds are actually white. So the price to maintain the whiteness is the same. However sizing pd will be harder asyou have to find someone to work on it, and it often costs more, as they need a totally different tool set. Not always though, so best to call around and see if you can find a local jeweler you can trust with your Asha to work on it for you.

Both metals have their draw backs and pluses. I like platinum and 19k white gold personally. Pd is not recommended by my local jeweler, so I have never considered it. If I cant get my ring serviced and maintained without shipping it off, that isnt for me.

Jcent your post was really helpful and I mean that. Just to clarify white gold can be as shiny as palladium (all other issues like re-plating aside) ? I think I might go with White gold after reading your post I don't really want to have to ship my ring out either if it needs fixing. I do not trust ANY of the darned jewelers here in New York honestly lol I bet half of them in Manhattan are corruptor shifty. SO because I am a spaz I will sit here waiting for that "yes white gold is really shiny too" before I put the order in tonight or tomorrow morning. I still have to settle up this debate with my mister tonight.

the "green mold" you're referring to is the verdigris that affects copper. i think brass does it, too.

like the Statue of Liberty. she's actually made of copper, or copper plated (i can't remember which) and, if polished, would be as bright and shiny as a new penny. instead she's.... pale green.

before purchasing white gold you should also make note of whether you're allergic/sensitive to nickel.

My grandmother in the past *tried* to give me gold earrings (yellow) and my ears blew up, I cannot wear anything at all in my ears apparently which sucks because I have 6 holes in my ear with no earrings. so I'm hoping that's not a hint of how my skin is in general with jewelry. How can I test to see if I am sensitive to nickle ?
