Well now that I've devoted months to figuring out the perfect combination of stats, customizing a ring, and have given the ring to her, it's time for me to be a little selfish and start looking for myself.
So, who has experience with mens rings? I know a few things, I'm all about the science behind the material, but cannot deny aesthetics. Ideally, tungsten carbide is looking great for me. I LOVE the weight. Like, LOVE LOVE LOVE how heavy it is. It feels so solid and nice. My trepidation is with the fact that I think black and gold are beautiful together, but the gold inlay would be softer, and the black coating...can't it wear off? Plus, it can't be resized.
Titanium is awesome, but light.
Steel (like Damascus/Mokume Gane) I really am not sure about.
Can anybody help me out here? =]

I bought my husband a polished tungsten carbide, and he loved it.. It was 8mm beveled edged and polished. He's really clumsy and rough and it never scratched, but very easily git prints and stuff on it. The "stuff" was him. He has...is acidic? Lol. And it doesn't help that he has a metal allergy, so his skin got raw after a couple of months and couldn't wear it anymore. But we both love it. so if you're not acidic(lol) or have an allergy to metal I totally recommend it. I love the darker color of it and am contemplating having my upgrade made of it, I've seen the rose gold, yellow, white, I'm thinking why not black. I thought I asked about that here, but didn't get much help, or any that I saw, or didn't. I'll rey to post a picture from my phone

Is it true you cannot resize any of those Tungstenish rings ? My future future mister was browsing Tungsten and titanium wedding bands for men last night so I'm worried he'll purchase something he'll regret.

One of the major manufacturers of tungsten carbide rings has a lifetime fit guarantee where if you need a different size you send them the old ring and (for a small fee) they will exchange it for the new size.

DH also likes his tungsten carbide ring(s). Yes, he has more than one, lol. He was having a hard time deciding and because they were inexpensive he just got them all (3). He likes the color and weight of the rings. I don't remember where but he got all 3 from the same on-line vendor. I am sure they were less than $30 each so he doesn't really care if they ever need to be resized. He can just get another one. This is the one he wears most often. second is this one. It's my favorite of the three...simple and classy. I don't like this much, he rarely wears it.

And it doesn't help that he has a metal allergy, so his skin got raw after a couple of months and couldn't wear it anymore. I just read something about this. Apparently it's about the metal alloy they use... From Titaniumkay.com: Make sure you ask your jeweler which metal was used in the finishing or binding process. Many manufacturers of tungsten carbide wedding band rings use cobalt as a binder, mostly because it is cheaper to produce. The problem with cobalt is that it bonds with oils in the skin and leeches out of the ring resulting in oxidation. The oxidation appears similar to tarnished silver, but cannot be removed by polishing or grinding. The better choice is nickel-binder tungsten carbide which is chemically inert, will not oxidize and because it is hypoallergenic, there is no danger of irritation to the skin. Be careful about dealing with a jeweler that doesn't specify that their tungsten wedding bands are made with the nickel binder alloy. Many jewelry stores do not know which alloy they are selling, and if they don't know, it is most likely cobalt alloy or pure tungsten, which lacks the hardness of tungsten carbide and are easily scratched.

Interesting, I wouldn't say nickel is hypoallergenic, though.

No, not at all!! Nickle makes my ears burn and gross, and my finger rash and scab...also gross.
