Hi all,
It is Friday and time for another weekly update!

The Gem Updates:

Amora Princess now 'patent pending': Our application for the Amora Gem Princess is now officially US patent pending, with an application number of 13/462,918.

Introducing the Amora Gem OEC!: Moving on the next of the Scintillating Six, it's time to unveil our Amora Gem OEC cut!

First photo:

And video!

Next patent filings: We're nearly complete with the Asscher cut patent filing and the Krupps will finish after that. We'll reveal these over the next 2-3 weeks. However, one caveat - the videos for both these cuts came out really poorly…as in far worse than reality. We're working to see if these can be reshot!

General BTD news:

Asha goes to Bangladesh! Asha sales continue to grow, and we're currently working with a new reseller who has retail operations in Bangladesh. Always exciting to bring Asha to an entirely new country.

RingExplorer.com This was a very big week for Ring Explorer as we completed the bulk of the 'search' logic to support natural language search (i.e. you can just type in things like 'James Allen Bezel rings', and out pops the results). We're continuing to improve the overall user interface with lots of little improvements to ensure a fluid and easy browsing experience.

We're also planning to add in Facebook support so that you can use your facebook account as the login if you want to favorite a ring for later, leave a review, etc. All the same support as if you were using a RingExplorer account basically - just use whichever login is easier.

Avarra Concave cut rounds sapphire restock: We're nearly complete with the cutting on these and hope to have the restock ready end of next week or shortly the week after. The sizes for these have been expanded to 5mm - 10mm for both Kashmir blue and light pink.

Misc:

Understanding crystal's and metals: As you know, earlier we have covered the true origins of precious metals (supernova explosions) and traced back how they made it from around the universe and into our jewelry.

However, I'm hoping in future entries here to complete the whole circle and get into some simple atomic interaction's to help answer a lot of common questions that can answer things like "why are metals shiny?", "why are gems certain colors - or clear?" and "why are some crystals more 'sparkly' than others?" among other interesting questions.

To explain questions and answers like that however requires some fundamental understandings at the atomic level, because that is where these answers can be found. Since I just happen to have a very deep interest for things like atomic bonding and interactions, then hopefully that knowledge can be used to provide some simple and clear explanations behind the mechanisms that make jewelry and gems what they are, and why they exhibit the beauty they do.

That will have to be started in a future post though. For now, one interesting fact I'll leave you to ponder over the weekend - everything you currently see, touch, feel, in our world, and in fact, your entire body came from what singular source? (Not a religious question btw smile

The answer is hydrogen - the veritable 'lifeblood' of our entire universe.

All the hydrogen in the universe was formed shortly after the big bang 13.7 Billion years ago (along with a small amount of helium and lithium). And from there…hydrogen combined with gravity and became stars, those stars fused hydrogen into our more common elements here on Earth such as oxygen, carbon, silicon and then when larger stars became supernova, formed heavier metals like our gold, platinum, palladium etc.

And thus, our entire observable universe, which is entirely composed of atoms, is the result of one amazing super-atom: Hydrogen. Much like how software can do impressive things, yet in fact all boils down to 1's and 0's, hydrogen is and was the building block for effectively every atom that makes everything around us, and in us.

Which also means by the way, that a good percentage of your body, which is majority H2O (Hydrogen 2, Oxygen 1), atomically speaking, is…13.7 Billion years old smile

Have a great weekend,
Less

Less,
As anxious as I am to see the Krupps video, I have to say that the OEC video is scrumptious. However, the most interesting piece of news was to find out that ,scientifically speaking, I really am "older-than-dirt"!

I always feel smarter after reading the Friday Update. smile

Less, as compared to the current moissy OEC's culet size(considering the variations) it seems the Amora Gem culet is GIGANTIC.
the chunky facets are mesmerizing and the center is reminiscent of a flower which is lovely. Unfortunately the flower has a huge hole in the middle, lol.

I guess what I really want to know is why it has to be sooooo large? Isn't there a middle ground? I know people love it because it's the way the old stones were cut but is a culet technically necessary and does the size make a difference?

To those of us buying, the size really does matter. blush wow, good thing I have a few years to decide, huh?!

Re the super-sized culet, those who prefer smaller and those who prefer larger... Perhaps, in the best of all possible worlds, the amazing cut designer and Mr. Robot could make a small culet version and a large (as it is currently) version of the Amora OEC?! I would prefer a small culet... wink smile

Holy doughnut hole, Batman. smile It really is so beautiful, but that culet really is so prominent. It would be nice if there was to be revolving batches of big then little then big then little, so that people could purchase according to what makes their individual hearts melt.

I thought moissanites are cut to maximize their brilliance? Maybe this is the only way they could cut it and make it perfect? I am just throwing out possible explanations.

I'm sure the accommodating peeps at BTD will account for customer preference. I think the fact that they ARE offering the OEC is a pretty good sign the the company are sensitive to people's needs. ^_^ I remember how everybody was so ecstatic and grateful to the hardworking individual who made this OEC happen.
