So, I have a dilemma, it is breaking my heart....so there is a possibility that mi MIL will have to take a break from watching my son,
and with that happening I would have to shift my hours of work (from home) to about 2PM - 9PM....and of course watch him until about 2 PM when DH gets home.

I contemplated daycare 2 or 3 days a week, so he can socialize and all, but DH thinks it is ridiculous to spend the $ when we can manage keeping him home for now...

thoughts? would you keep in home even if it meant basically bending back wards?

I would work the evening shift at home or move some hours to weekend and still have some family time in the evenings. There should be plenty of opportunities for socializing if you are not working during the day.

Have you done the math to see how much a bite daycare would take from your income?

Oh Yes we did the math, it is not as much as I thought considering it'd be 3 days tops, from like 8 - 3, but DH is not hearing it.

I would not put my child in daycare if I did not *have to*. We moved, and my DH switched jobs so that we could make it work for me to stay home, so this was a big deal to us. I know this is a personal choice for every family to make, but taking care of my kids is my first choice always.

Make it work at home and save the money.

I don't mean to sound harsh but there are tons of families that have two parents working outside of the home. One works a day shift, the other a night. The both do child care while the other is working.

Shifting your work day, especially when you work from home would be what I would do without a second thought.

I agree with the rest of the ladies...that doesn't sound like bending backwards. You're so lucky that he doesn't HAVE to go to daycare. smile

+1

And I don't see why you can't work with him around. I ran a printing company from the time my son was 3 months until he was almost 4. It took some creativity on my part, and necessitated some breaks, but I got it done. You might have to work longer hours with more breaks to take care of your son. Seriously, us moms are much more resilient than you think and "where there's a will, there's a way....."

You might be suprised. 1 is a hard age, but kids really like routine. IF you working is a regular part of his day I bet he'll adapt well to it. It will take some time and patience on your end, but it may just be possible!

You might be able to create a situation where you can get stuff done. I also worked for myself when my kids were little. It took some creative problem solving and me resigning to the fact that it would often take 4 hours to get 2 hours worth of real work done, but it was better than NO work getting done!

I wouldn't consider daycare at this point. Nursery school? Yes, but that's not for another few years. I'd do what I could to adapt to the situation for now KNOWING things change fast. If that means some odd hours for a 2 years or so that's pretty doable in my mind. But of course only you know your situation.
