Hi
I dont know if this is posted in the right place so forgive me if it isnt.
I bought this ring and the seller said it was a white sapphire but im unsure if it is. Can anyone tell me what might be? In sunlight it looks blueish, but white/clear indoors. Im thinking it could be a CZ because it is so clear and sparkley and ive heard white sapphire isnt, but the seller is sure it is a white sapphire and even wrote out a reciept. It is set in 14ct white gold and is a lovely ring but i really would like to know what the stone might be. Here are some pics.

I can`t tell, but I have a white sapphire. It throughs light in flashes, but does not sparkle as a diamond or CZ would. It is very white though, and it is pretty, but is not diamond like at all. A cz would be diamond like.

these pics aren't the best. It isn't a very photogenic stone, but you get the idea. wink

+1, judging by the pics, doesn't look like a sapphire.

If it's not a white sapphire, and it is a natural stone, my first thought would be spinel. Decades ago, spinel was used as a stand-in for many gems including diamonds, sapphires and rubies because it has a high refractive index and came naturally in so many colors, including colorless. The Black Prince's Ruby in the Imperial State Crown of the United Kingdom is actually a spinel.

Thanks for the replies, Im leaning more and more towards cz myself due to the clarity and sparkle of the stone. Having compared pictures and seeing jcents sapphire mine really cannot be one. I dont know wether to just email the seller again, im kinda dissapointed because i dont seeem to have what he said it was but i love the setting because its so heavy! I was thinking of changing it for a moissanite stone and I still have my 5mm moissanite so rang a jeweller to see if that could be set in this ring, but as the setting holds a 6mm stone she said no, so i asked about having a 6mm mossy set and she replied in a rather snooty way i dont work with moissanite so im going to say no anyway! charming! Anyway i will more than likely end up changing the stone does anyone know where i can buy a loose 6mm moissanite stone in the uk? I actually missed one on ebay which would have been perfect, and im sure that i can find a jeweller somewhere that doesnt have a snooty attitude when it comes to setting a moissanite!

I wouldn't let the seller get away with it! They actually just changed Ebay/PayPal policies that allow for partial refunds when the value of what you got doesn't match the listing.

Email the seller, tell them it isn't sapphire but also tell them you love the setting and see if you can work something out.

It could be a Lab white sapphire - in which case...still a sapphire and it would be clear...a cz has a bit more depth than what I see in your photo...Yours looks glass-like versus cz sparkly but I am going from the photo. Though it doesn't have that kinda cloud look that a natural sapphire might...a lab sapphire or a really GOOD natural white sapphire...would be quite clear...but still not sparkle like cz/diamond.
