I need some honest feedback please. I'm posting this in the Customer Gallery because I know it is one of the most popular forums and this "may" be mine soon. My collection of colored stone rings varies a lot, both in the type of stone and they type of setting, which is what I like - variety! I recently acquired a gorgeous very bright vivid pink Mahenge oval. It is as vibrant as my red, but very pink, not red. It is 9.7 x 6.9 to give you an idea of size. What I need from you ladies is an honest opinion of a setting I found. I was able to get some pictures with the stone set in the setting and I want to know what you think. (yes the tag is still on the setting). It is waaaaay more blingy than any setting I own, and while I thinkit is very pretty visually, I'm not sure whether or not it is too over the top.... If I got it, I doubt that I would wear it very often, as it would be a most "noticeable" ring if you know what I mean, but I have several rings now that I feel like I can wear almost anywhere, so this would be one of those "just on special occasions". On the one hand, I'm afraid it's too much and why would I get a ring I would seldom wear.... on the other hand, it would be a statement piece (I think) and the whole point is to have something that doesn't look like everything else I have. I'll post a couple of photos including some comparison pics to my Cuprian tourmaline ring and my red mahenge, which are my two other "blingy" rings. Honest opinions please. I'm not posting this on PS because I'm not after opinions of the Mahenge, it's mine and I love it - lol, I'm after opinions of the stone in the setting and I think you guys are often a better judge of that. Oh, and I need to decide soon

I'm going to be the lone dissenter here, I think it's awful and blocky Thank you for your honest opinion and while I get "awful", I'm not sure what you mean by "blocky" Please elaborate.

I'm going to be the lone dissenter here, No! You're not! I don't like it one bit. Casey and I are friends and she knows my feelings about these things so I'm not insulting her at all!! I think halos are way overdone, and the current trend for rings that are so busy with so much going on just doesn't appeal to me at all. ...... and there's the pink thing!

I don't think it's over the top but it's not a casual ring either. If you want to wear the stone more often tha not, then mabe that's not the best setting.
I think it's beautiful, but I do understand your dilemma!

Kind of like me and the "white" thing - lol..... oh, and antiquey miligrain rings..... and tiny delicate rings and and and ..... lol! This would never be my first choice if it was my only colored stone ring, but it's not AND I did ask for honest opinions. Diversity - that's what makes the world go 'round!

I think it's beautiful, but I do understand your dilemma! Thanks BMV - it is a dilemma! I wear my red mahenge a lot, even though it's somewhat blingy. One of the things that I do like about this ring (for a not everyday ring) is that it sits quite low. I prefer low sitting rings, even though a couple of mine do sit up high, but that's mostly because of the size of the center stone..... Also, I have the bright violet pink sapphire that's an everyday ring.... see, I just keep talking myself in and out of it... sigh....

This is a lovely ring, yet to my eye, it seems like the "same song, just a slightly different rhythm" with the two rings, above. You mentioned likely variety---to my eye, these are all variations of a very similar theme. Lovely, mind you, but still looking too similar, to me. If it makes *your* heart sing, then buy that puppy up! In the end it's you who must be in love with it, whether you wear it once a year or every day.

While I don't think the ring is too over the top to be worn frequently, I do feel that it is very much like your other rings, and if you were looking for something special and unique to put the stone into, this would not really be it.
I really love the stone, it's gorgeous, but I can't help but think there must be a setting out there where there is a little more focus on the stone and less so on the "busy" of the setting. Just my two cents though!

I'm not sure how, I don't want to be rude. But I find it chunky and awkward, I don't get the spikes, and I find it to be overdone (actually I think all the pictured rings are) overall. However I think it's clear that we don't have the same taste so whatever makes you happy!

The more I look at it, the less the sides look appealing for some reason...maybe thats part of what Lilac finds blocky. I think you should keep looking actually This looks like a setting TL would be all over...does that help?

Thanks for all of the comments, I really do appreciate them. Well.... I took the setting back and got a different one (Sparklee - turn away, you will probably hate this one even more) .. lol... Some of you may think it's still similar to my other rings, and in a way it is, but in a way it's not. This setting was way less money than the other one.... partly because it's 14k instead of 18k and partly because there is a lot less in diamond weight. The diamonds are still white and sparkly, but are VS instead of VVS and smaller. It's still blingy, but has a much smaller presence on my hand... I bought this one with the thought in mind that it may not be the forever home for the stone, and beings that it's made for a 9x7 stone, I'll have lots of options for stones if I want to swap out the mahenge someday if and when I find a setting that knocks my socks off. I took these photos quickly in my office which has yellowy recessed lighting, so the diamonds looks cloudy, but they aren't and the stone is balancing on top of the prongs, so it cockeyed. Please feel free to be honest about this one also.... if you like or not, my feelings won't be hurt, however I am going to keep this one.... even if it's not a forever home for the mahenge.

I think you should keep looking actually This looks like a setting TL would be all over...does that help? LOL! Like I said, it's not my normal style and I picked my two rings that were the blingyest (and therefore the most similar) to post as a comparison. If I would have posted the Mark Morrell solitaire or the Eddie Sakamoto cab bezel, the difference would have been startling....
