That is just horrible that they would even say something to suggest he would have purposely purchased an illegal stone! Oh the nerve of some people! And the "...but this is probably a smuggled stone. He'd need proper documentation which I'm pretty darn sure he's not going to have." You cannot simply make those kinds of claims based on a photograph, especially one so far away. >.<
Her ring is beautiful, and congratulations to the both of them.

+1 MissCassie Like anyone can make a claim like that from a pic. RUDE! Just let them be happy. It is understated for sure, but I think it is beautiful.

because the general public is not always well informed or cares enough to fact check. And the reality is even the "rare" gems are often available in department stores. Yeah, they may be uber treated and filled and heated to the point where they're no longer precious stones, but people don't know that. So rubies seem like a dime a dozen, as do emeralds, pearls etc. Another example is pearls....try finding a natural pearl that wasn't cultivated and see how cheap they are. BUT you can buy lovely AAA strands for 100.00 so people don't feel that they are all that "precious." Those pearls (which are the only ones I own) are lovely, but don't exactly compare to one that was created naturally, in the ocean price wise.

I agree. That had to be the rudest comment anyone can make next to "is that real?" I couldn't care less what type of stone someone gets engaged or married with because IMO it is beautiful because it represents that couples love and commitment, and you cannot place any monetary value on that. I love her ruby ER. I love e taylor's in her avatar it is stunning, I love sapphires, emeralds and moissy, asha with diamonds as well, see why I get in sooo much trouble participating on this forum?!
