I'm getting ready to be hit with tomatoes now, but I just don't like that ring. I hope she picked it out herself and is enjoying it, because if he picked it out, I'm fearing that she is underwhelmed.

It's definitely simple, but I think it's pretty. She seems to like simpler things, just judging by her dress, hair, etc. in most of the pictures I've seen of her. And I think she's a doctor, yeah? So she might have wanted a simple, low profile ring if she's going to be in and out of gloves all day. Perhaps the ring is a priceless, rare ruby, or maybe it was relatively moderately priced. As long as she's happy, who cares? Maybe she even preferred something less expensive so she wouldn't have to worry about being mugged for the multi-million dollar rock on her hand. She might be married to someone famous, but she's a working woman who seems to attempt to lead a somewhat normal life.

I find it really strange that everyone assumed that she was going to have some massive rock because of his money and fb going public? Who cares right? as long as they are happy.

I think the ring is nice but plain. Not the setting I would want. I think anyone who claims or insinuates the stone was bought illegally is just looking for attention.

I don't think he was being 'cheap' in his decision, I mean the man has enough money for a zillion lifetimes over. I'm sure his choice in rings was valid for some unknown reason.
But yeah, he is a gabillionaire, so it's kinda safe to assume that I expected something a bit 'more'. It say that 'because he is rich and famous, it's not right to assume he's going give his wife a huge ring,' well i disagree with that. Celebs get huge rings, as do most rich people. I expected something different because of his station in life. But if she's happy that what matters.
Except, this is a jewelry forum, so in the spirit of that I think it would be safe to give an actual opionion on the ring itself.

I find sooooo many celebrity rings tacky and over the top. Just cause you can, doesn't mean you should. The colour of that ruby is wonderful, I bet it wasn't cheap in the slightest. I think, realistically, he got her what she wanted, or at least knew she would love. If she decides she wants some bigger pieces, I am sure they will be able to make that happen, lol. On the Asian culture/importantance of red thing, ditto to what JP said. I am no expert, but lived in Japan for 7 years. When I lived there I NEVER, not once, saw a stone over 1ct, and most (like 95%) were smaller. Beyond that, every single girl I knew wore the e-ring for a week, and then only on special occasions. Once married, they generally just wore their bands, as they felt their e-rings were too expensive to be outside. I thought it was crazy, but if Mrs Z is anything like the women that I was friends with, she just would not feel comfortable wearing something huge.
