Hello Ladies,
So a few weeks back I posted a thread about stone size and asked if there was a noticable difference between a 1ct round and a 1.25. I am having a little shrinkage and would like a slightly bigger stone, but I don't want anyone to notice that I have swapped it. I ordered a 7mm and a 7.5mm cz and I am finding that the 7.5 just looks too big. I like the size of the 7mm even though it is such a slight difference. Am I crazy to want to swap out the stone for such a small difference? Has anyone ever swapped out a stone for a .5mm difference?

I answered this question a few weeks ago and I'm guessing it was probably your thread and you I was talking to? Sorry, there are too many conversations to keep up with. smile

I went from a 7mm to a 7.5mm round years ago. It felt like a huge leap to me but not one other person noticed. It's now been several years that I've worn the 7.5mm and I still think it's big. I can't imagine going to an 8mm. I'd be so self-conscious in it.

I hear all the time here, ".5mm is so small, you can't even tell the difference." I think it's a HUGE difference. So my official diagnosis is: No, you are NOT crazy! (Unless I am, too, which... well...)

I also posted something similar to this in another thread but thought I'd respond because this is EXACTLY what happened to me with my ring! So I know what you are going through, sarabara25!

About a year ago I bought a 6.5mm solitaire with a Mira (now Amora) moissanite. At first I thought it was the perfect size, and then a little shrinkage set in. So then bought a 7.0 and 7.5mm cz to see what size I liked the best. 7.5 was very beautiful but just a little too big for it to be believeable for our budget and lifestyle, while 7mm still made it bigger but believeable. It is a super slight difference but it makes a difference to my eye. So I am upgrading to a 7mm Amora gem when they come out. It just was like that "sweet spot" that looked just right on my finger. smile

Of course all of that is just a personal thing and when I see bigger sizes on others fingers I think they look great! Everyone has to find their personal comfort zone, as Hadley mentioned above.

Anyway, hope that helps!

Haha, yes it was me Hadley. I just can't believe how small the difference is from 6.5 to 7mm but i feel the 7.5 is HUGE. Like you said I would feel self concious. I just feel a little silly because the change is so slight, but I really like the size smile And if I sold my 1ct on the bistro the price would not even be that big of a deal.

This is all you need. Period.

If you get a chance, can you post before and after photos? I think it would be helpful to lots of people in the long term to have a visual reference of a .5mm difference, particularly in full-hand photos because those show scale the best.

I'm getting ready to switch a 7mm Asscher to a 7.5mm round. They are visually the same size, but the reason for the move is to go from Asha to Moissy. I'm promising myself I'll do full hand shots of the ring before and after the stone switch. It would be nice to combine our before and after photos in the same thread to create "one stop shopping" for readers who have this question in the future.

Alright so I did not want to order from moissco because of previous issues with my ring but btd was sold out frown then by some miracle they had one in stock, so I took this as a sign and snatched it up! I will keep you posted on if I keep it or not.

Did you order a loose stone, or a whole new ring? I was under the impression that you plan to get a loose stone and put it into your existing setting -- is that right?

I ordered a loose stone but I cancelled it this afternoon for two reasons. One being that we had a small flood in our basement and are now going to need the carpets and some drywall replaced. But the other is after I placed the order I got kinda sad. I didn't think i was sentimental over the stone but I guess I am. The Idea with parting with the stone that he got down on one knee with made me very sad. So I am keeping my ring as is laugh And suddenly my shrinkage is gone. Maybe I really am crazy! haha I think I will keep this size until our five year and then move it to my right hand and get a larger ring for the right. i am thinking something like a harry winston cushion halo repo. Anyway thanks for all the advice!

I don't think you are crazy Sara. wink I had terrible shrinkage with my first set until I got my cupcake ring. So I do have a bigger ring now, yes, BUT getting it made me feel so happy with my original set as well. And when I wear it, I no longer think it looks too small, and I still wear it often. I just couldn't change it either. If you ever feel like you may want something bigger again, I totally think just get a a fun gemstone ring or something to mix it up with. wink
