One of the many advantages of being over 50 years of age is that nobody ever asks. They assume it's real because I'm so old. However, if someone ever did ask, I would say that I inherited it from my mother or mother in law.

99% of the people (and family) I know buy their jewelry from the jewelry stores in the mall. So I just say "oh I found it online for a great deal" and they are satisfied with that.

It works to my advantage if they think it's inexpensive and/or not real, otherwise I'll start getting the comments about my "obsession". My family can be jerks about it...I may be a little bitter. wink

I just say 'We found a great deal online' and leave it at that. No one has really pressed the issue, but if they did I would probably just say 'I looked at a ton for inspiration like Blue Nile, I'm not sure where he ended up getting it from...I didn't ask because I didn't want to know the details'. Not entirely a lie, because I did look around a LOT before I got mine smile

I say that it is a Moissanite loud and proud. Actually a local jeweler (we looked at rings there) was advertising moissanite a couple of years ago on a billboard on the main drag through town. The only ones who know are me, my fiance, my sister and daughter-in-law and some of the girls I work with. Not everyone was there the first day I wore it and no one else has asked. If strangers are so rude to ask they'll be told it's real. Actually, my fiance mentioned that he was in line at a local Aldi grocery store and noticed the honker on the girl in line in front of him. Even he is beginning to wonder if all these rings we see are actually real or sims. He finds it hard to believe that something THAT BIG could exist on someone who lives in our big, bad city. lol

I just joke and say it was the best Wal-Mart could offer wink

In all seriousness, we just say we got it online through a wholesaler.

I stick with the custom purchased stone and setting. I have an antique style stone which you cannot find at the mall so I just tell anyone with the nerve to ask that I worked with my personal jeweler to find just the right stone for me etc etc.

It depends on the ring really and who is asking. I say the truth and say online jeweler.

I say, my late Great Aunt Martha from Nova Scotia.

Well, I would, but no one has asked. wink Probably because I'm old. *snerk*

I can truly say the truth now without sweating. The truth with slight details excluded. If one is so rude to ask, then they don't need to know every little detail about my sparkly shopping habits.

I was wearing a Tacori IV at a party when the host asked about my ring. She wasn't rude or asked questions, but I did tell her it was a play ring as my Anniversary ring is being made...that my wedding ring was stolen, blah blah. I thought I would be seeing her many times again in the future but as it turns out I probably won't see her again as our kiddo no longer wants to play the same sport. I should have just said, "oh! Thank you!" and let her think what she wanted. Her response to my wearing a play ring was kinda wierd. She just frowned and said she wasn't a big jewelry person.

I couldn't care less what people think now, when I turned 30 (about 10 years ago)I promised myself to stop sweating the little stuff.
That's one advantage of getting older hey??
