Well, as you guys may have gathered already - I LOVE pears! I was talking to my SO the other day about getting an Asha pear e-ring and he was hesitant about needing to replace the Asha someday - I would really love to have the Amora Gem pear - whenever that day comes! I mentioned that the upgrade would be an easy anniversary present :P

Enough rambling. Do you think that a bezel setting would protect the stone better? Do you have any suggestions? I would really like a pear 3 stone ring - but have yet to see one thats bezel set.. might get a halo. Would a halo help protect it? CAN you protect it? lol

I'm sorry if I'm not speaking clearly - long day!

A bezel will absolutely protect a stone. It is probably he best way to protect the stone. But do you love bezels? Swapping stones out of bezels is tricky though...generally you have to choose between the stone or the setting. As well, setting CZ in a bezel can be precarious as the stones are softer and can easily chip. With a pear, the big thing is the tip. So you could do the standard v-tip, but I personally think they are kinda bulky and not my thing. What I would do, if you don't want to bezel it, is 3 tiny claw prongs. I should give you the same protection as the v-tip, but it is less than a bezel.

As for a halo, it will give you some protection because the girdle of the stone is not going to get hit ever, but then you have pave stones at risk of damage... so it is a toss up.

I have a setting that is pretty low with a very deep-set stone. It's not a bezel though and would be easy to swap the stone out. I think it really protects the stone. It never catches and I hardly ever hit it.

While I get that a bezel will better protect the sides of the stone, it doesn't seem that it would make difference on the top surface. When my Asha started to sustain scratches, they were all on the table. Photos I've seen of others have been the same. Can anyone determine if my logic holds water?

That makes sense Hadley, I dont see how it could protect the table much smirk

Well... I might not even have to worry about this because by the time I get engaged there might be an Amora pear!!! laugh

I have seen that one, Rusalka! I prefer the bezel set legacies, but that's personal preference. That ring is really pretty. I think the pear looks great in a legacy setting.

I always wanted a bezel set pear too wink Only I know I would scratch the top of Asha eventually and will have to replace the stone and destroy the setting. I too wish for Amora gem in a pear cut, so I would not have to worry about the stone. The moissy I have now has no scratches at all and it's at least 5 years old.
