meh, there's generally a reason. it could be hereditary, but even so it can be biochemically different for different people. I would want to know where the breakdown is happening, personally.

is it iron deficiency, vitamin deficiency, have your ferritin levels been looked at, is it hormonal etc.

There's just so many reasons why anemia can happen that I don't like to see it brushed off as just "anemia." A person who needs folate (possibly methylated if there's a genetic issue) isn't going to be helped by supplementing iron, you know?

I know what you mean but sadly, I've learned to pick my battles with regard to health care. Dr.s usually will only treat or deal with one thing at a time and I've got more going on that impacts me more severely than being anemic. I can't even remember all the Drs I've seen just the past year. They dont even see it as a slight issue. They just throw me a piece of paper that says take slow fe iron and they move on. There's no point in finding another dr as they are all like that. I pretty much have to treat myself. I decided I couldn't take it anymore and went in with a huge list of symptoms. Symptoms like severe hair loss, blue nails/fingers, its 90 out and Im still cold, cognitive issues, severe pain, joint issues, sometimes I can be holding things and they will just drop out of my hand, unbelievable fatigue, skin lesions etc... Nine times out of ten Im told its all in my head and told to exercise and given an RX for an antidepressant. The other one time, the dr looks at me and says ok, one thing at a time.

Its so frustrating! I really just want to scream sometimes!

elf, have you ever seen a nauturopath? Not in place of a Dr or you specialists, but in conjunction with? I really do feel one may be able to help you. They tend not to dismiss things, in my experience.

And a few of the naturopaths I have been to are GPs as well, but they made the decision to take a differnt route with regards to healing.
