I would get it set somewhere else. I'd probably get it sized big enough to fit my middle finger, then I'd go back to that jeweler and show him what that 10mm CZ looks like again. wink

I kid. Really, I'd just blow it off and take my business elsewhere. Don't let him get you down.

Augh, that's too bad! frown

I'm sorry to hear that were exposed to such bad service Eleanore!

I bet some street-front jewellers (I'm an Aussie, we spell it like that! :)) are scared stiff that the internet has allowed their customers to educate themselves about the options available, including sims.

I've had a negative reaction to taking a dimaond ring in to be valued, one that I bought on ebay. The jeweller was actually furious to think that I had paid so little for such a lovley diamond, and snapped at me "I couldn't even buy that wholesale for that price, you just got lucky".

Hope your day improved after that! And find a jeweller who will show some respect and manners! Love to see a pic of your ring when it is finished.

dont sweat it eleanore, for those that dont know shes in canada with me laugh hence the hesitation to send the ring back to the US to be set, customs and all that fun stuff..

the jewelers and economy are just fine here so they can be snobs, and i honestly dont even bother with the local jewelers girl...ive been there and when i know more than them well theres a problem, and they are ignorant and have attitudes...plus their work is not so great and totally overpriced...always go with wink, dk etc if the options there...

just to comment on the emerald thing, ino a lot of jewelers that hate to work with emerald period whether thats lab, natural u name it!

dont let it get to ya, its their issue not urs!!

My local jeweler wouldn't work with my setting because I got it from the internet. When I asked him to just set a stone, his reply was since I got it from the net it probably doesn't have the right head, and he will not work with moissy. I feel for you girl!!

+1

A good jeweler should be able to work with anything and communicate their limitatons so you get what you want within reason. My local guy at least warns me with things like "if this isn't solid gold the setting might not be resizeable" etc. But I at least then knowingly take the risk and wouldn't hold him accountable for my internet finds. The important thing is he keeps me in the loop in terms of making informed decisions and what I should and shouldn't risk when it comes to custom work. For someone to say they don't want to risk working with CZ, well, that just goes to show their lack of skills, imo.

I really don't understand what is so difficult about working with CZs. They are harder than most gemstones that jewelers don't seem to have any problem working with...

I've been refused and I've been warned about the limitations of CZ by other jewelers. I'm ok with the warning, but I still want to say "If you can't work with CZ's, how on Earth did you manage to set those semi-precious gems that you are selling?!"

Isn't CZ harder than an amethyst? I know plenty of jewelers that will happily set an amethyst.

I used to have a great jeweler that did plenty of custom work for me. He used to explain the limitations some designs have, such as it must be solid, some pieces must have a certain thickness or have to be supported some way, etc... Sadly he closed shop and moved and I lost track of him.
