Sigh, I am slogging through the last book of Fifty Shades. I got them on my e-reader to take on my honeymoon. I almost didn't make it past the first chapter because the writing is so.terribly.awfully.bad. But I persevered and I am bound and determined to finish the dang series. But I am indeed looking forward to reading something GOOD after I'm done. I also have to finish the 4th Game of Thrones book. I got tired of reading the series because it was taking me so long, so I put that aside for a while.

I can't wait to finish these and go to the library again to just browse and pick up something that looks interesting. I was an English major, so I can be snobby about books, but I have read some really interesting books just by choosing ones that had an engaging cover, lol. I *do* kind of judge a book by its cover at times. wink

I heard that 50 Shades made Stefanie Meyer (Twilight) looks like Dickens and that it was abusive porn...um, not for me. I feel bad for people that get a recommendation saying that its such a great series and are never told what its about and get really pissed that they buy it just to find out its pornography.

I need a good book to read! Any one have any clean suggestions? smile

I have to tell a quick little story. On 4th of July my FH's family all went to my future bro in laws for dinner and fireworks.

My soon to be mother in law came over and was asking me about 50 Shades! I was so embarrased. My FH told me I turned a very dark shade of red.

I highly recommend James Patterson books! He is one of my favorite authors. He has a few series- Alex Cross, Women's Murder Club etc. Great reading

I am reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness and LOVE IT! I also HIGHLY recommend ANY books by Sarah Addison Allen or Adriana Trigiani. Adiana's book Very Valentine was one of my favorites of all time. Both authors books are light and perfect summer reading IMHO. I always check Amazons reviews before I choose my next one-even though some people on there post just plain weird reviews, it is somewhat helpful.

agree with most, 50 shades did not do it for me...my friends think I am nuts, but I think the more people read, obviously the more critics we become, so it was not ALL that...

I just read ROOM, interesting!!! Specially for moms!

For our bookclub we recently read White Teeth by Zadie Smith, and I enjoyed it.

I picked up the 50 Shades book to see what the hype was all about, and I confess that I just skipped to the naughty bits and haven't read much of the rest. blush grin I find that the writing is pretty lame. I've read juvenile fiction written much better than that.

Thanks for the others' recommendations. It's always good to learn about different types of books. I love to read. I can even state that I love reading more than jewelry (blasphemy on this forum, I know!).

I loved watching the Game of Thrones series on HBO so I decided to be crazy and start reading the books. It's a series of books called A Song of Fire and Ice by George R R Martin. The 1st book is a Game of Thrones. Wow - they're awesome but SO LONG. I'm on the second book and I'll be taking my time since only 5 of the planned 7 books are completed.
I also have to add that the HBO series has done an amazing job staying true to the books so far. MUCH better than what happened to TrueBlood.
