I finally did the requisite ordering of moissy and Asha so that I could compare up close and in person.

I have studied pictures and posts on this board quite a bit, so I ordered an enhanced and an unenhanced moissy. I am so disappointed with moissanite. It didn't look the way I was hoping it would look (I expected it to look like a moody diamond). I really wanted to like it so that I would have a stone that would last a lifetime and that wouldn't need to be cleaned as often.

At first all I saw in them was the yellow (to me, the enhanced is indistinguishable from its unenhanced counterpart.) Throughout the day they grew on me though, and now I think that I'd be able to wear and appreciate them for what they are, maybe set into earrings (where I wouldn't see them up close, but they would still provide a lot of sparkle.) Friends and family would have been in the know about my moissanite engagement ring, (I wouldn't have been passing it off) but I just don't love it like I love the deepness of the Ashas. After all, I am the one who will be scrutinizing it most often and I want to be absolutely in love with my ring.

There are also quite a bit of overcast days where I live which only adds to the yellow cast. The stones look lovely in so many conditions, but everyone here is right - overcast days will bring out those yellows and greens.

So finally, the point of my post - I feel like while I still have the stones, I really want to know what you love about moissanite. Why did you choose it over anything else? I want to be able to appreciate their qualities for what they are - it's even possible that I'll change my mind. So please, do tell! What about moissy makes your heart skip?

well, if you don't like it then I think you might have to pay attention to that. I didn't like asha, tried to talk myself into it and it just...didn't work.

I love every single thing about moissanite. It was love at first sight for me. I love the depth, which to me ashas do NOT have. I love the sparkle, the durability, the fact that it stays firey even when it's dirty, the moodiness, the color (I have am 8mm unenhanced in a ring and 1.5ctw unenhanced earrings.) I don't think that's something you can nudge yourself into. You know?

Why not go with asha, with the expectation of replacing it with an amora gem when it comes out? Then you kind of have the best of both worlds.

I love the depth, the sparkle, the colour, the moodiness, the size (I could never in a million years afford a 1.5 carat diamond ring). I love the story behind moissanite, born from a star, yadda yadda yadda, lol. Love the healing properties it supposedly has. I just feel like to me it's a real gemstone in it's own right. When I first got mine I intended to pass it off as a diamond but as time went by I started to feel proud of my stone and I wanted everyone to know what it was and why I chose it smile

Yes! From a star! SO romantic. And the way it performs under the stars is unmatched by even diamonds.

Ditto on the size. A 2 carat diamond will belong to me....oh wait. NEVER.

I like moissanite because it was my gut reaction the second I opened my package that contained my Amora OEC.

Perhaps it's the cut that doesn't do it for you? The RB didn't make my heart skip a beat like the OEC does..

As for the qualities that are a bonus on top of the fact that I have my dream stone for aesthetic reasons (most important!) I also love that moissanite is durable enough to be an heirloom stone, which was and is really important to me, and that it is amazingly sparkly. I also love that, despite the fact that in the world of sims I have one of the more expensive ones, I'm unbelievably happy that I got my dream stone (not a hold me over) for less than 2k!

I could go on forever, but some quick other reasons why I love my moissy is because I loveee the J color (The OEC in that color looks very fitting). It is a soft buttery ivory. Plus, I was really particular about the setting for my ring, so getting the stone for less than 2k free'd up the rest of the budget for the setting.

But all of my opinions aside, you have to love the stone the second you see it, or try out a different cut. In jewelry, and really in life in general, it's best not to talk yourself into loving something, because then it's really just settling. If your knee-jerk reaction wasn't love at first sight, you should try something else absolutely.

ETA: I know this is a touchy subject because not all gold and melee is ethically sourced, but I'm glad that I can have a 3ct stone without the gut wrenching feeling that it has contributed to war and blood-shed.

I like moissanite for the same reasons already posted by others here.

My opinion is you either love it or you don't. If you don't love it, you probably aren't going to be able to convince yourself otherwise. If you went in with your mind set on moissanite looking and performing like a diamond, then you're likely to find yourself disappointed. Moissanite is it's own gem.

I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy. I think if you really want the look of a diamond, you may want to just stick with the asha.

i love love love the sparkly-ness!! Can I ask what kind of cut you got? The rounds show less color than the other cuts so that's 1 reason why you might notice it more in a cushion cut or something else. Also, if your stone is large, it will show more color. I originally bought a round brilliant 8mm moissy and i didn't like how splintery it looked. I ended up with a 8mm OEC unenhanced and was beautiful. It's buttery (L color) but it's not terribly green. It sounds like you don't like yellowy diamonds (you mention "yellow cast"). I love the warmth because I would never have been able to afford a 2 carat colorless diamond, and this is much more believable. I like moissy b/c at the end of the day it's still a gemstone- not a synthetic like asha. it's more durable and you won't have to clean and change it or baby it as you would an asha. if you think about moissy as its own stone like you would a sapphire or emerald, you might enjoy it more smile

Yes, what cut did you order? I am not a huge fan of the RBs for myself...unless they are colour enhanced. For modern cut stones, I prefer white stones as well...white as in E/F. But for old cuts, like the OEC, I think the unenhanced warmth is absolutely amazing. It is not white generally, but it is warm and glowy and beautiful in my opinion.

I also love the cushion cut of moissanite, but it does show a lot of warmth for me personally, so I have mine colour enhanced pink, and I LOVE it.

I choose moissy over Asha just because I feel moissy can last forever. If cared for, chances of chips and abrading are similar to that of a diamond. Asha and CZ don't have that forever quaility in my mind, and I don't want to deal with replacing stones. But a lot of people love their Ashas, and if you want a white stone, that is the way to go, at least for now, until you can order Amora Gem.

When you say enhanced..did you get a Amora one??

I also only like the OEC cut,...
The rounds that I do like are small ones like 3mm and under,..as they totally look like diamonds and and very white.

Get what you love!! If you ever have to re-place your Asha,..at least they are much more reasonably priced.

I love my Moissanite b/c everyone thinks it is a diamond! I love the fire and depth. I also love the fact that even though I shouldn't, I beat mine up and I can't kill it or even make it look dirty. I just breathe on my Asha and it looks like plastic.
