I have had my heart set on a wedding set for a few weeks now (since the first time I saw it, I knew it had to be mine) as an 'upgrade' to my own. However, since we literally JUST got married (Saturday...LOL) I can't justify spending the money on the whole set right now. DH and I talked about it, and we agreed to buy the band now, which I can wear with my current engagement ring OR stack with my wedding band, and then we can save up and get the matching engagement ring later. He sold his old car and we're using the money from that to pay for the band...it's almost the exact amount we need! Here's the thing, to order the band alone, is considered a special order. I know that I love it, but having not seen it in person, nor have I seen it online on another hand or anything (I've only ever seen it in the stock photo) I'm terrified that I'll receive it and not like it and then I can't return it. Part of me is worried it won't fit next to my current engagement ring (although it would only have to briefly, until I paid off the matching engagement ring) so that's not a HUGE concern, but a swirling thought. I think just because those 2 words 'special order' popped up, it freaked me out!! What would you ladies do??? FYI the band is palladium with diamonds, still covered under the warranty offered by the site, and they are a VERY reputable jeweler that I hear awesome things about...but figured I'd be vague on exactly who it is to get unbiased opinions / advice.

Oyy, I can see the concern. I'm not sure I would do it.
I just wouldn't want to spend a significant amount of money on something that, heaven forbid I don't like it, I'm stuck with.
Maybe you can ask the vendor for real life pictures of the band (not the beauty picture that most of them have online) and pictures of it on a hand and at all angles.

Is it a stock setting? If so, another vendor may be able to get it and not consider it a special order.

I emailed and asked for more pics, thanks for the tip!! JCent, I didn't even think of that! I have no idea where I would find out, do I just look at Stuller and Adwar's sites and see if I find a match?

Stuller, Adwar, Unique.... Or post it here, maybe we have seen it. Or you could even try asking them...not directly but just see if you can find out more about where they get their settings. It will make it easier to narrow down the search.

"Sight unseen" and "nonreturnable" don't go together for me. That's just too much of a gamble when you're talking about the level of financial and emotional investment that come with a wedding ring.
Like jcent said, check Unique, too. That's another commonly used brand. And if you can post a photo of it, some of us might recognize it and be able to help.
Also, do you know you can do a Google Images search using a photograph? Instead of typing keywords into the search box, you drop a copy of the photo onto it. It's my latest technology baffle-ment.

Wow I didn't know that!! Sadly, the picture brings me back to where I found it but that's some handy little information for next time!! I love Google, LOL. I won't post a pic on the boards, because I don't want any of the vendors / jewelers on here to be offended or anything, but I'll keep checking the casting companies to see if I can find something similar...thanks again!!

Trust me, none of the vendors here will be insulted or offended. We all know that there are MANY companies for clients to purchase from. There's enough to go around.
That being said, what kind of engagement ring do you have? If it's a cathedral solitaire, it should work with just about any band. Halos or e-rings with diamonds or side stones are the hardest since most clients want the band stones to line up perfectly in terms of size, color and placement.
