Need your help with this ring by David Klass that is in the works right now.

White gold, split shank, low profile trellis setting (I'll include DK's CADs, too). DK is asking if I want the side diamonds set in a U cut or French pave style.

DK says: "Both styles are very secure and show a lot of diamond with very little metal. The U prong style can fit slightly larger stones, and you can see more of them from the side. The French Pave gives you a flatter look. Let me know which you prefer?"

I am leaning a bit towards the U cut for a bit more bling, but wonder if it would be as comfortable as the French pave looks to be.

I'd like your thoughts - do you prefer one or the other? If you have pics of your U prongs or French pave, please post!

Hi there! It's really difficult to say, because it varies so much with jewelers. Personally, I would ask him what he has more experience working on, and what he feels more comfortable with, and choose that. The difference really is soooo subtle IRL (French Pave, aka V-cut is superrrr low profile and comfy when a good bench in involved) However, if the bench was highly highly skilled in both (think Steven Kirsh, Leon, or VC) I would do U-cut, because it has less of the "gears" look. Anyways, these pave types are so much about the benches skill that I would go with whatever type the feel they can execute more flawlessly.

I'm for the French pave. Either way, a very beautiful ring is in your future!

For that style of ring I would much rather have french pave' .... I think U prong is for bigger stones... IMO.... smile

I like the French Pave better-something about it looks more feminine. The U-prong to me looks more harsh. But I do agree that if the bench thinks he can execute one better than the other it may sway you in that direction. I am sure it will be beautiful no matter what!

I have to vote french pave for comfort and I think it will accentuate the lines of the split shank better.
