Hey ladies! So, EEEEEEEEEEEK! I received my 7.5mm Amora OEC today *swoons*, um, and anyway, I have one local guy I'm considering for the job, but if for some reason he feels he can't do it right or is Murphy decides to be a pain and I end up not using him, where on earth should I sent my 14k white gold, six prong setting and stone to for having it set and the prongs clawed? I specifically had the prongs made longer so that they could be clawed easily, but who would you recommend if this guy falls through? I'd hate to send my new baby away and risk shipping, but I'd be even more sad to not have my ring set correctly and have it just sit in a box! You all rock!

I would PM Turksinlove She had her Poppy incredible 3 stone done with claws, and they were soooo drool worthy! Some people like them super pointy, some people not to much, but I think Turks had a nice happy medium going on.

Lol, you know, I've been wondering where the stones for settings sold privately by poppyseed were getting set. Thanks Kat!

I agree to keep looking in your area. You may want to have a local jeweler anyway for simple things like checking prongs or resizing.
Sibbysgirl...the reason you see so much negative about local jewelers is because so many of us have had negative experiences. Everything from inferior work to down right rudeness and snootiness regarding any non-mined stone. Unfortunately it seems to be common....but that is not to say there are not some good jewelers out there...they are just harder to find!

Well, good local jeweler, FOUND!!!!! His name is Joel, he works for Wedding Day Diamonds here in the Twin Cities, and I had the pleasure of speaking with him today. He was brought out to me because I went in with my setting and stone and asked if they would set outside stones into outside settings, after scurrying around for a while and talking with the jeweler, told me yes, they can. I was describing how I wanted the prongs set, and the poor sales associate was giving me the "Deer in the Headlights" look, so she went and grabbed the jeweler who came out and WOW, he was so incredibly nice! At first I was thinking "You've got to be kidding me, right?" because he looks younger than me, turns out he's been doing this for over a decade (so, bonus, he has plenty of experience), and since I couldn't quite convey in words what I wanted we hopped online and I showed him what I meant by "clawed prongs" by looking at Victor Canera's website, he told me no problem it would just take him a while to get them all the same shape and length (HONEST! Sweet, right?!). Now, when he walked out and we were shaking hands, he told me "Your moissanite is so cool, I've never seen an old european cut before!" Shut the front door! This guy knows what moissanite is, he knows his cuts, AND, this is amazing: He loves lab created gemstones! He loves that they are "more pure" and that they have no potential ethical baggage. I must admit, I had to refrain from hugging him. So yes, I do believe I found the guy for the job! I'm so excited. Once the ring is set, I'll definitely make a full review of the work, etc. Now, most of the sales associates do have a "moissanite is a simulant" attitude, but overall are very nice and totally okay with working with moissy and CZ.
