I personally really love having a bit of a gap between bands. That way I can actually see both of them and I think it just looks better instead of appearing as a big fat band. Though, nothing wrong if you like that look. It just does not appeal to me the same way that having a gap does.
I like a little gap for the same reason. I like the lines and some separation between the rings.
