Someone from tPF asked me about sims and referenced the MMD section of PS. I went to the link she gave me and saw a seller who sells "real laboratory created diamonds." I couldn't find any old threads from the BTD search, but does anyone here have any experience with their stones? Are they really what they claim to be?

I can say that this is a legit diamond grower from Eastern Europe...they are real lab grown diamonds, not sims (i.e. they are not another Diamond Nexus \:\)

Hope that helps,
Less

I thought Apollo made lab-grown colorless diamonds, too?

There are currently only a handful of research samples available for public purchase in colorless lab grown diamonds, worldwide.

Apollo has a few small ones for sale, as does D.Nea.

The trick is, as I have tried to point out many times, is that no one is currently doing 'commercial' production (i.e. ongoing consistent production under fixed settings).

Rather, they are experimenting with how to better grow whites, during which they may or may not have a few that turn into sellable goods.

Hence, whites are still only available in smaller sizes and very random, unreliable quantities and supply.

Offhand, there are probably 5 labs worldwide that have the ability to grow colorless whites...the trick is none of them seem to able to do so profitably and/or reliably, and hence you only have a few stones around:

 Quote:
D.Nea - HPHT process - research samples, .40ct up to .75ct

Apollo - CVD process - research, up to .40ct (normally .25ct)

Takara's yellow diamond supplier (private lab in Asia) - HPHT - research only, up to .50cts. They discontinued whites as it was incredibly not profitable due to the very long growth time whites require vs. yellows.

Gemesis - HPHT - experimental. No samples currently that I know of.

Chatham - HPHT - has mentioned they were doing some research, but nothing has been shown to date.

Thats it as far as I know of. If there are others that I don't know of, please post,

Hope that helps,
Less

As long as the Less and the moderators don't mind, I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Eric Franklin and I am the CEO of D.NEA (formerly Adia). As Less mentioned, we are one of a handful of companies that can produce real lab-created diamonds. They are grown by Advanced Optical Technology Corporation (AOTC) in Europe via HPHT, cut in Antwerp, graded by EGL Vancouver, then come to us in Michigan. We are the retail front-end of AOTC.

We have grown whites up to one carat, but they are quite difficult to produce in gem quality, so like the others, our supply of whites is quite limited.

Hi Eric,
We are very happy to have you on our boards, so Welcome.

I've also updated the name of our old 'Takara Cultured Diamonds' forum to 'Lab Grown Diamonds' so it is more encompassing, so feel free to post in there as well if you have updates on your production or offerings.

Best regards
Less
