No pics yet, but I got an antique platinum filigree ring with tons of detail - really pretty, and I am not even fond of filigree! The stone was advertised as "probably amethyst". It's an 11mm round stone, and it is purple in some lights, and in others it looks green/blue? It seems to be a difference between natural sunlight and flourescent - at least that's what I noticed today (first day wearing it). Does amethyst do that?
I have the pics on my desktop - is there a way to upload them here without going through a photo-sharing site?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like Alexandrite. I have an Alexandrite ring that does that. Purple in some lights, blue/green in others.
If it's not that, maybe it could be a color change amethyste? I have one of those too. It does the same thing as the Alexandrite.

Hmmm - I've never seen an alexandrite - but I had thought they were usually much smaller. I'll have to look for pics of one.

Yes, they do have those! Mine is a small oval. Supposedly authentic. Either way, I like the color change.

Real alexandrite is very expensive, so unless this was, it is probably created.

after looking at pics it has to be alexandrite! I did pay a bit for it, as I was so interested in the platinum mounting... but the thing is so huge that I'm probably going to have to sell it.
Is there any way to find out if it's lab-created or natural? I guess by the size it probably is created.
Thanks!

I would ask a jeweler you trust. It could also be a color change amethyste. I have one of those too.

You're welcome! I wish I had the listing. I bought mine off DB quite a while ago.
