Ok, so I have a LOT of weight to lose and I realized that the holidays are going to be here before you know it! I want to visit with old friends and family and feel GOOD!!

I am starting tomorrow going shopping with all fresh, healthy things in mind. Trying to cut as much starch out as I can.
I am going to weigh AND measure once per week and keep a journal to track.

Would anyone be interested in doing it with me? I def. need some motivation here-as a stay at home momma in a new city I dont have any friends yet around to keep me on track!
Then, I'm going to set aside some cash for a shopping marathon when I hit goal
Let me know if you're game!!!

Hi DG- I'm getting pretty close to my goal, but I'm game! I started out with uppy's low carb challenge in June, and so far I have lost 8.5 pounds. I would like to lose 7 more.

What are you doing for exercise? I've been riding my bike, swimming with the kids, walking, plus I have an elliptical and a bowflex in my basement, so I've been lifting weights as well.

I recommend Fitday.com for tracking you foods, activities and journaling. It's free!!

Hi Jenny!
I have gym access and walking for exercise. My goal is to burn 500 cals in each workout.
Thats great you lost 8.5 pounds!!
I use Sparkpeople and love it-but sometimes I actually prefer just keeping my diary in the kitchen and writing it down that moment. Helps me not to forget!

DG3660, I like to put up a dry erase board on the fridge to keep track. Then it's right there and for everyone to SEE too! \:\( That helps keep me on track better.

After I get this baby out, I'm totally game!!! Exercise might have to wait a couple of weeks if I end up with the C-section, but hopefully tracking my eating will help a bit. \:\)

Good luck! You can totally do it! I found that when I moved to a new state, not having new friends yet helped me stay focused and busy with the diet and exercise. ;\)

I'm down. I need some support as well. I am borderline diabetic so I need to get myself back on track and back to living a healthier lifestyle. My fh is way too much of a food lush so for three years we've been constantly eating out, ugh.

I've been using this site:
http://www.50millionpounds.com/

It's free and gives you monthly calendars, shopping lists, etc. I really enjoy it and it's not too strenuous on what you can and can not eat.

I don't have a scale but so far just with that I'm down a size and I've been on it for about a month.

Oh, and I haven't been working out, just one daily dog walk. I'm so bad with that aspect.

Hi there! I just wanted to add my support to you guys living healthy.

I've changed my diet by reducing fatty meats (I love tofu now and rarely eat red meats and even more rarely pork) and not eating out, switching to soy milk instead of milk (dairy makes me bloated and gives me mood swings and acne), and always having healthy carbs (wild rice, whole wheats, etc). My meals have at LEAST half vegtables if not more, and my job keeps me on my feet for 12 hours a day so I really haven't been doing any extra exercise. We no longer have "snack" foods except for air-popped popcorn with ONLY those flavour shakers on it (no butter). We love our food so I have to say stock LOTS of different spices so you don't get bored of foods easily, and try those "weird" fruits and veggies at the store you haven't eaten before.

My first few lbs came off fairly easily, but I seemed to sit 5 lbs away from my ideal for the longest time but I kept at it and then FINALLY the rest just melted off. I couldn't believe it when I stepped on the scale and saw my goal weight! I only weigh 7 more pounds than I did in highschool! And I know, inches matter more than lbs, so I just have to say that I am wearing clothes that I though I wouldn't fit into again. Just keep at it, I know you guys can do it! Even my SO has lost almost 20 lbs. We are happy and healthier than ever, and we are enjoying our "alone time" even more! ;\)

ETA: Also, we try to pick low Glycemic Index foods whenever we can. We don't count calories, just try to have high fibre low GI foods with appropriate proportions. I was taught the "hand jive" proportions for food: Meat/proteins should be the size and WIDTH of your palm, carbs (whole wheats OR starchy vegetables like potatoes) the size of your closed fist, and vegetables the size of your 2 open cupped hands together (ie, as much as you can hold). I realize now that this was my real enemy as I would dish out equal portions for my SO and me! Um, I don't want to weight the same as my SO!...Your veggies should also be as many different colours as possible - so eat a rainbow and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for their tips and tricks! I have SUCH a hard time because I have insulin resistance, and while I should be avoiding carbs-I dont eat meat! Not only that, I only have certain veggies I will go near.
I guess because of that I always get bored eating egg beaters, veggie burgers and cottage cheese for protein \:\(
But I really need to do this. Halfway though my prenancy I started gaining at an alarming rate. Come to find out it triggered the IR and now I'm still carrying around 98% of my baby weight......
which sucks when the "baby" turns 3 this week!

Wow, I completely understand your battle with IR.

So are you a vegetarian or do you just not eat beef/pork?

I don't eat fish, beef, pork and veeeeery seldomly I will have chicken (I'm way phobic now from food poisoning).

I have a serious gag complex with veggies-I can't even force most of them down. Really, all I will touch is tomato, lettuce, cukes, corn, jalapenos, sometimes green peppers, and potatoes.

Hubby thought it was all in my mind (the aversion) so he made a creamy apple walnut salad and chopped in some celery and did not tell me. I took a bite and when I crunched in my stomach lurched. DH said my face looked AWFUL and I actually had to spit it out

Soooooo the IR thing really sucks when you can't do a "normal" low carb style diet. Its really daunting. If I could make myself eat other things I really would, but gagging and getting sick kinda puts a damper on things lol.

JSmith-do you have IR too?
