Is upgrade for 8.6% to 8.9% more area worthwhile?

I can't decide whether a mini-upgrade is worthwhile or not. I've heard increasing the surface area by 10% or more is where upgrade starts becoming worthwhile. I'm looking at one that's 8.6 to 8.9% larger surface. These are H&A RBs.
I own this diamond: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/1792
(To see the b-scope live, go to http://www.gemexlive.com and enter Diamond ID of: br119gsi214811671)
The one I'm looking at is one to two color grades higher, which puts it in E or F, equally well cut, perhaps has more contrast than the G diamond does, and would add just short of 9% surface area and boost the diameter to 7.16 - 7.18 or so. So, do you think it's worth doing to get slightly larger diameter and higher color, or should I hold out for something more like 7.3 or 7.5mm? I have a J diamond that's almost 8mm diameter that I don't wear much, and don't want another J. I don't want to go below H in color, so doing that on the cheap is difficult. There's a shortage of 1.4 - 1.6ct diamonds and a relative glut of 1.2 to 1.3 ct.
I'm becoming so color sensitive that I almost think it would be better to upgrade to the E-F diamond because the whiter color will work with the bigger diameter and the diamond will look larger to my eye than a J or K would. Weird, I know. But the I/J/K range just looks like dirty white me anymore. I wish I'd never learned to discern tints of diamonds, lol.

Sounds to me like the color is really the characteristic of highest importance to you, so I would say go for the E or F diamond. It may not be that much larger, but you would be happier with the color. Let us know what you decide.

I think I'd wait too, in another year you may be able to save up for larger and whiter. Sounds like that's what you really want.
I'm with her. Sometimes we get caught up in the rush of potential trade up that we don't think long term. I personally would wait til I could hit the 1.5 carat mark in the color that makes my heart sing.

The only bad thing is, I have money tied up in that G SI2 that I'm not even using because I'd planned to halo it and then found I'd have to spend another $4.5k to get the mounting I'd seen in a magazine custom made b/c it was nobody's standard product line. Shoot! Another $4k to $5k can get me a 7.5 - 7.6mm diamond in an uncluttered solitaire mounting, and forget the stupid halo, lol. Sometimes, I'd just like to sell off all the diamond rings I've acquired except that M VVS that's my avatar and my I VS OEC and go look for a deal on a 7.5mm stone.
The typical wife here wears either a plain gold wedding band, or maybe a .5 to .6 ct RB in an old battered YG mounting. In a small town of high unemployment and high % of women who are homemakers married to millworkers and laborers, a 1ct diamond is almost unheard of. A few have larger than 1 ct, say maybe 1.5 ct, but darned few.
So, y'all may be worrying about passing your sims off as real. Well, I'm wearing mine, and I tell people they're just lovely fakes in nice settings, lol.
I've often wondered if I couldn't make a tidy second income selling Interlaps or other czs here, like people have Tupperware and candle parties.

Yes, if they ever get one that suits cheapskate me, lol. I want H or up, or L/M that's a candlelight ivory color. I keep looking at an I color but suspect that I is too much tint from the side. It was when I looked at a "Wallets On Fire" (Hearts On Fire) princess I color. I'd probably notice it in a big I colored RB, too. Unfortunately, the whiter large diamonds I'd like are too much money to waste. And I have a big J and don't want another big J color. I can sell G SI2 back at a 25% loss and that idea is starting to have greater appeal as time goes on.
The problem with L/M diamonds at GOG is that they hardly ever get them except as the new chunky cushions, and it has to be like a 2ct or up to be able to trade the G in on an L/M that's good enough cut & clarity that it still is offered w/ the lifetime guarantee. Otherwise, it's 30 day guarantee and ineligible for tade-in / trade-up.
Btw, Whiteflash is the king of J and K color ideal RBs. GOG specializes in I and up, except perhaps whatever they plan for the new chunky facet antique look diamonds. I've been watching this for 2 years, now. Moral: Buy once, buy right.
