Need help finding a gadget

Hi.... I have a question for all of you techie people out there.. My DH's stepdad just passed away (he is at his mom's right now for the memorial service) and her/his family (lots of step kids, grandkids and great grandkids) want to keep in touch with her, but they all want to do it via email.
She is still youngish (67), but she refuses to get a regular computer... she tried a while back and thinks she broke it (I doubt it, I think it was a piece of junk)... anyway... DH and her sis have tried to convince her and she said no.... BUT
she would consider a gadget that was strickly for emails only.... it would have to be something bigger than a phone, perhaps the size of a small netbook....
She's an avid reader and doesn't have vision problems, but just won't do the computer thing.
Is there any device out there that is just for reading/sending email? Nothing too expensive please.... the cost will be coming out of our pocket - LOL!!!

Does she use a cell phone, Casey? Perhaps getting her to use a Blackberry or iphone might help?
My thoughts are with your family, btw.

Casey,
My sincere ccondolences to your husband and his family.
This has been around for a bit...i've never had need for it, but you might want to check it out. you aren't locked into paying for a service either.

Sorry to hear about your dh's families loss.
My dh's 90 year old grandma uses webtv and loves it! I am not too knowledge about it but I believe it is a keyboard that just hooks up to a tv. I know she has no problem sending us emails and getting our emails. Plus she is the queen of forwarding jokes with it! LOL!
