Hi Everyone,
I am currently trying to decide on my engagement ring stone. My fiance and I have been together for awhile and had the money for my 2 carat diamond ring; however, I am getting my second graduate degree in a row and we privately decided to invest the money back into my education. We don't want people to know that the center stone isn't real. I really love the Cartier ring with a round 2ct. cut by betterthandiamonds.com. How realistic have you found the Asha's to be?? I'm more than willing to spent 2 or 3 thousand for a ring that no one (save a jeweler with a loop!) doesn't know isn't a real diamond. Is mossiante a better choice?? I'm also going to turn around in about 4 months and order my wedding band and I want an eternity band... is mossy better for this?? Thanks for any help I really appreciate any!!

Kate

hmm.. IMHO, if you are going to be wearing the ering as a diamond, id say go with asha because the faceting at the 2ct size would be noticably different with moissy (although for durability and sparkle, the moissy is superior, again imo). and from what i've seen, the asha rb's are indistinguishable from the real deal w/ the naked eye- absolutely amazing! \:D

for the eternity band i'd say moissy \:\) they seem to sparkle beautifully even when a little dirty and again is more durable. and at the size youd probably have in an eternity ring, i dont believe a color difference would be distinguishable between the two types of stones if you were considering a mix and match. ;\)

Thanks!! I think that's what I'm thinking as well. I just want the most realistic (and of course sparklie!) ring possible. I'm concerned with wear and tear though....I currently wear my first ring set (1 carat emerald cut amethyst set in platinum with a diamond band in platinum that we bought when I was 19 and wanted rings but weren't ready to get married!!) but since I have three dogs as soon as I'm home I take my rings off so they don't get too beat up. I'm hoping my Asha can hold up for awhile. This is a random question but someone told me that if you breathe onto a CZ stone that it'll fog up, is that true? Does that happen to Asha's?

The ring I'm currently ogling is 1895 Cartier reproduction with a 2 carat (maybe 2.5 carat) in pallidium. Does anyone have any opinions about platinum vs. pallidium?? Any thoughts on a wedding band that is an eternity band that will look good with this ring?? I like the wedding band that is sold with the ring.... but I'm pretty flashy and I want something a bit more sparklie all over.

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kitkat and welcome to the boards! Here are a few links to get you started. This is a question that gets asked all the time so your best bet would be to read some old threads on this and then order the 2 stones to see which you like best and return the one you don't prefer. You'll see fans of both and won't get a collective, definitive answer. \:\)

I do happen to agree with MrsocB about the faceting and color of the moissanite in stones in larger carat sizes. But it boils down to personal preference.

And here's one about choosing an asha or moissy eternity band -

Those two at the top of the page there are 7.5mm and 8mm RB moiss.

These are both 8mm moiss RBs. The one in 4-prong YG that throws the broader flashes is the newer stone of the two. It has different faceting from all the other moiss I've looked at. I bought from a local jewelry store that has since dropped the line of fantastic moiss that they sold for a while.

Your rings are so pretty!!! Thanks for sharing pictures. After going through all the old threads I'm pretty set on ordering an Asha ring. I don't want any tint and it seems that in 2 or 2.5 carat I may get that moss.

How believable do you think a 2 or 2.5 carat Asha is compared to a diamond?? All of the pictures of Asha stones look amazing.... but I was almost tricked into buying a DNL ring. I'm going to order the band and stone together and have them set by betterthandiamond.com I don't want anyone scratching the stone! I like the moss eternity bands. I had no idea until I started this search that there were so many choices!! My next decision is whether or not to get a takara pink diamond and white diamond band for my right hand.... anyone deal with them ever??

It's definitely a personal preference. I like moissies, but I know a lot of people prefer ashas.

I just want to point out one thing - I have a moissy eternity with 3mm stones, and I can easily tell the difference in color in most lighting between that and my 6.5mm H asha cushion ering. I don't wear them together because of the color difference, so before you buy a moissy eternity and an asha ering, I would take a look at them together. \:\) Maybe if you get small moissy stones, it won't make as much of a difference.

I've had both an Asha and a moissy in 1.25ct size, and I also recommend an Asha for the larger size, especially in a round. My moissy is oval, so most people don't really know what the faceting should "look" like in that shape, where a round it might be more visable. You'll probably see tint that big also.

I did have 5mm moissy earring for a while, and didn't notice any color in them, but it may be different in an eternity band next to the Asha, so just order one from a place that accepts returns in case there's a color issue.

I own the 1895 Cartier Repro in Palladium (set) from BTD. It is beautiful. 20/20 hindsight here, but If Id had a choice I would have prefered WG to the palladium. The palladium is drop dead gorgeous, but a real PIA to get work done on it. I had to have mine resized and no one around here would or could work with Palladium. Then there is the issue of jewelers not willing to work on a ring that they didn't have a hand in.

I had to send it back to BTD...I ended up waiting maybe 8 months, because I didn't want to be without it (even though I could only wear it 1 or 2 times a week for a short period of time. It was too lovely to be without.

They turned it around in about 10 days, so it wasn't as bad as the wait to have it made *groan* I hate waiting.

The Asha are really stunning, very impresive. BTW I have two Akita and I horse around with them all the time and my ring has not been harmed in the least. Okay I do wash the lovey smooches off, but the ring is not worse for wear. I do not sleep in my e-ring, do dishes, yardwork or anything but make bread and play with my furkids. The ring has held up great..oh yeah I use gemcare regularly.

I ordered a moissanite eternity band because everyone seemed to agree that in an eternity band, that was the way to go. I am awaiting delivery (it is in production now) and will post pictures as soon as it gets here. I did order it in palladium because my e-ring is platinum and even though the band will be worn on my right hand, I wanted it to be similar.

The live chat with the Moissaniteco.com people was fantastic and the customer service people were very helpful. I would ask them your questions as well. Also, keep in mind, eternity bands are not returnable, so don't order one thinking you can just return it if you don't like it.

Good luck!
