Can it be done? Right now my ring is brand new so no issues but for the future, can jewelers rhodium plate my ring if all is WG except the YG center basket?

TIA. It's my first ring with two tones of gold.

I think so, but I'm pretty sure that the yellow gold shows up more quickly when the rhodium plating starts to wear off. I had a yellow gold band rhodium plated a few years ago and I have to say that it didn't seem to last as long as when I've had white gold rings plated, but I don't know if it's just because yellow gold shows up more because of the contrast?

If I remember correctly (I think it was feydakin) anywho, apparently some stuff is painted on the areas that you do not want plated to protect it and then it is put in a 'bath' the plating is attracted to the metal and and leaves the 'other' alone

shrug, who knows i could have been drinking... you can always try and look up the post.

Many jewelers use finger nail polish to cover the yellow gold portions so that it is not rhodium plated too.

Therefore, yes, it can be done and shouldn't be too difficult since 2-tone pieces (white gold head, yellow gold shank) are quite common.

So sorry - it seems that I completely misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking if the yellow gold part of the ring could be plated successfully.

As mike said, we use fingernail polish to cover anything we don't want plated.. I prefer red polish.. And after years of paint small, delicate, rings in thick red nail polish I think I would make an awesome nail tech \:\)
