really? 'cuz my fine/thin hair does so much better - for styling - when it's been several days since it was washed. not for ponytails or wearing it down, though, but for curling or anything requiring product. which i rarely do.

the dry shampoo sprays also work nicely to give a little oomph. combined with hairspray, they work like the mascaras with the white base coat.

but, then, my hair is very well behaved and as long as i've got doodads that will stay in my hair, it'll hold whatever style i want for as long as i want.

here's my mom's hair from my wedding - styled in a hotel room clear across the country, and without all of her regular tools and products:

Several days? If I go a day without washing my hair it looks like it's been a month. It would be an oil slick after several days. Several years ago I even tried the no shampoo thing because someone said my hair gets dirty so fast because I keep washing it. Um...that little hair experiment did not last long. It was disgusting, lol.

I love your mom's crazy curls! I think it's fantastic!

Yes and yes! When I get up in the morning, mine honestly looks like I combed vegetable oil through it. In the hot summer months I have to wash it twice a day if I'm going out in the evening, otherwise I would scare small children (and even more adults, really).

Dana, your mom's hair is FABulous! Oh, what I wouldn't give for all of that!

My hair has similar curl to Dana's mom's (but longer and brunette w/ no chemical treatments / color). smile It can get wild, so I wear it "down" on freshly shampoo'd days. Day two, sometimes down, depending on my mood. Day three / four, it's generally up in a floofy, very high ponytail, so it looks like a curly "puff" on me. LOL!

The year before last I was watching the Shopping Channel and sooooo got carried away... blush I decided to try out this: Ojon Swa treatment to see if it worked on me. For some reason, I thought my hair was thinning... crazy Uhm, yes, it works! After using the serum as directed, I noticed the teensy wee fine baby hair around my face growing longer. My whole head of hair got stronger and wilder. I stopped using it because it was just too much wackiness going on. LOL!

My SIL saw the difference in my hair, so she uses it. Her hair is straight, uber-fine, oily, and it works well for her, for having stronger, thicker hair.

I also used the Swa shampoo & conditioner but skipped the fortifying lotion because even the 'poo and conditioner make a difference with my hair.

Lol Hadley, scare small children. Yeah, I totally get that. I try to do dirty work in the morning before I take a shower so i don't have to wash twice but sometimes it can't be helped. When we are camping or outside all day in the summer I absolutely have to wash my hair again because I can't even sleep with my hair that grungy. Not so bad in cooler weather or when I'm in all day. Sometimes I can spritz it and redry to freshen it up if we go out in the evening.

I found this recipe for dry cleaning hair but I haven't tried it. http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/07/a-quick-fix-for-oily-hair-dry-clean-it.html It would be nice if it worked enough on those days when I don't want to shampoo again in the evening. I might rather use ACV in place of some of the alcohol.

that's basically a DIY dry shampoo spray, like what i was talking about.

except the DIY versions are likely to clog in your spray bottle.

...and the alcohol is important, to help absorb and evaporate. if you use vinegar & water, you'll be making vinegar gravy on your head. sick

See, this is what I'm talking about. I took a late shower this morning and fixed my hair (curling iron, a little bit of mousse and some hairspray) before going to birthday lunch with DH. By the time I got home at 2:00 it was about gone. It sure doesn't help that the humidity today is about 900%. I'm not a meteorologist so that is just a guess, lol. I'm ready to go get my pointy hairband!! (BTW, those things are dangerous....you could take your eye out just putting it in!)

Interesting thread!

Bobby pins slide right out of my sisters hair too. I bought some of those ridiculously expensive ficcare minis to hold her veil in place and they worked like a charm.

My hair also tends towards being thin, limp, and oily in less than 24 hrs. I've always been fine with washing it every day but in the last few years I've starting getting 'dry spots'(eczema) on my face and neck. This has lead to me trying all sorts of things to avoid using the prescription medication that can cause glaucoma (yikes!)
I couldn't stand the smell of the commercial versions of dry shampoo. So thanks for sharing Morning Glory! - this may just be the thing.

I may be dating myself but I had one of those pointy hairbands in high school when they were super popular.

I took a pair of scissors to the ends of the points because I got tired of them jabbing me in the scalp. After that it worked great smile
