Hi!

I have a question. My jeweler said his benchman noticed that most of the channel set diamonds in my engagement ring are loose! I knew there was one princess channel set diamond that visibly slid back and forth. My ring has rattled since the day it was sized, so I'm thinking this occured because it was compromised.

Anyway, my jeweler once told me channel set diamonds can't be tightened. Now, he said his benchman said they can be tightened. He has a special tool that he can hammer them tight.

Uh, I'm not liking the sound of this. My jeweler did say that at long as I'm careful channel set diamonds aren't in danger of falling out.

What do I do? I asked him if letting his benchman tighten them if it could do further damage and he did agree it could.

I'm thinking I should just leave it as is. I've been wearing it this way since day one. What do you all think?

TIA!! \:\)

WOW, rattling...I don't like the idea of further damage. Are they crooked too?

Since you have tiny fingers like me I would say the channel setting was compromised. Hopefully there is another solution to this, I just don't have one other than getting it re-set. That might be costly.

Thanks, CQ! It definitely was compromised. I've been wearing it like this for years. I know that's not good either, but I too don't like the idea of further damage. No, not crooked thankfully. Just the rounds spin and princesses slide. But only one slides that I can actually see. I don't see anything else moving BUT I can hear it when I hold my ring up to my ear and move it quickly.

Re-setting is definitely costly. My jeweler said even to take them out and re-set them into my current setting would be costly. I would like a new setting BUT DH isn't having that. The ring is in excellent condition. As long as I know I won't Godforbid lose any diamonds it's fine.

As long as you won't loose a stone I'd leave it as-is!

Have you tried getting opinions somewhere else? I know how annoying a rattler can be. Have you tried hot-glue?

I've been at it again with the glue-gun.. maybe I should show you what I've been up to...heheheh

That's what I'm thinking too! If it isn't broke don't try to fix it type of thing. Thanks! \:\)

Glue gun? Nope hadn't thought of that. I heard it gets hot though! LOL, I saw the work you did. It came out very nice!

I got it out again for a ring my mom was wearing. She was pairing it with a wrap. The diamonds in the wrap were scratching her new band to pieces where it fit up inside. So I hot glued the space under where the diamonds were poking out, then put her solitaire back. Can't even tell!

Ummm....I lost two stones that were channel set. I was seriously annoyed too since they were from my original wedding set. If he is confident that they won't fall out then you may be able to chance it, but to make a blanket statement that channel set stones won't come out...I beg to differ with him. If it were me and the stones were at all sentimental, I would get a second opinion.

Good luck, hun.

I have 30 channel set diamonds in my set, the one I wear every day with the PC. I have it sized 3 times, once a full size up and 2 times sized down. Never had a loose stone yet!

If you get a sec talk to Wink and see what he suggests. He gig the my last sizing in April. May be he has some ides for you!
