Okay, fortunately nothing was lost, but it was only luck.

Please see the video of damaged package to understand what can happen if you do not tape your shipping box shut!

I wasn't so lucky \:\( .

I shipped a ring in a small ring box inside a priority envelope (I have done this many times). The envelope was sealed, but when the buyer received the envelope, there was a hole in it and it was empty and this is what she said was written on the package:

The hole in the envelope is stamped "Received unsealed
Received without contents"

I didn't insure the package (my bad) because it was under $100 and I have never had something like this happen to me, so I am out the money for the ring and the shipping.

I TOTALLY believe the buyer, as I have done many transactions with her.... I checked the tracking after she contacted me and this is what it said when she first told me about the hole:

Class: Priority Mail®
Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™
Status: Missent

Your item was misrouted. The error has been corrected and every effort is being made to deliver it as soon as possible. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

THEN a day later, it said the same thing, but added that it was delivered. It did NOT mention online that the package arrived empty, only that it was "missent". Now it wasn't "missent" on my end, as it showed being shipped from my PO and arriving at a different PO before it was rerouted, so who knows what happenend.

BUT, to add to what Wink said, don't ship anything without insuring no matter what the value unless you are willing to take the loss AND don't put anything of value in a priority envelope.

I vote for bubble mailer sent first class ... even w/ insurance it is less expensive and more secure than other packages. They are tough little pouches.

my husband and i ship small parcels all over the world on a pretty much daily basis, and yes the little padded bubble mailers (i call 'em bubbelopes) are really sturdy. and the small flat rate priority mail boxes aren't bad, either, but they do need to be filled with crumpled paper or air bubbles or something, and securely taped shut at all seams.

but still, wow. i'm so glad whomever send that parcel didn't lose anything!

Fess up time, gals - it was ME! I only taped one side of the box and relied on the self-stick tab for the other. The good thing is that it was definitely insured! Lesson learned. KT is right, I don't usually send jewelry out. This was only my second time. Usually jewelry comes to me.

Funny thing is that I didn't even know this was a post. I saw the vid b/c Wink sent it to me in an e-mail! I told him I'd be living in video infamy! lol

I see bubbleopes in my future.

MGR, usually the self-stick tab is enough, it's crazy that it came undone... I'm glad you had it insured though!! \:\)
