Purchasing from Singapore - Import tax and duties guide

Importing jewelry purchases into Singapore

Singapore is one of our top five largest markets for our colorless H&A gems, and thus we wanted to provide a quick overview for customers to be aware of typical taxes levied during the import process for your order.

The short summary is you can expect a sales tax of 7% of your order total to be levied during import into Singapore, and no tax if order is less than $400 SGD, but details are below.

Singapore assesses taxes on any items imported regardless of it being a commercial entity or private individual.  They tax the value of CIF - Cost of the item, Insurance cost, and Freight/shipping cost.

For orders from BetterThanDiamond, we pay for insurance on our own, so that does not factor in.  Shipping to Singapore is a flat $44 fee.

Thus, the value of your shipment for Singapore taxes is simply the total cost of your order (goods + $44).

Taxes due - for items over SGD $400, there is a GST (sales tax) of 7%.  There are no duties due on jewelry.

Thus, for orders less than SGD $400 = no tax is due!

For orders over SGD $400 = 7% GST will be levied against your BTD order price, and must be paid during the import process.

Summary - in general, you can expect a tax of 7% in addition to the cost of your purchase when ordering from BetterThanDiamond, and shipping to Singapore.

Please note that while we present the information above based on our best efforts, government regulations can and do change...thus, we encourage you to check directly as needed with Singapore customs as well, via their website:
